All-optical Digital Logic Gates using Bistable Semiconductor Ring Lasers

This paper demonstrates all-optical digital logic gates using bistable monolithic semiconductor ring lasers (SRLs). With the flexible multi-functional experimental setup, we have experimentally demonstrated the application of SRLs to realize logic functions including: AND, OR, NOR, XOR and all-optical non-return-to-zero (NRZ) to return-to-zero (RZ) format conversion.

OSNR Analysis on Optical Cross Add and Drop Multiplexer (OXADM) in Ring Metropolitan (CWDM) Network: The Analytical Approach

The optical device model named Optical Cross Add and Drop Multiplexer (OXADM) uses the combined concepts of optical add/drop multiplexing and optical cross connect between two main transmission lines in order to implement the wavelength routing operation.

The Analytical Model of Point to Point Network: The Analysis without Termination Node

This paper highlights the analysis of the OSNR of Point to Point Network without OXADM. OXADM node function such as transport, multiplexing, routing, supervision, terminating, and survivability in optical layer with ring and mesh topologies.

New Algorithm for Enhanced Double Weight (EDW) Code for Spectral Amplitude Coding OCDMA System

This paper presents a new algorithm for enhanced double weight code (EDW-OCDMA). The original code uses a manual code generating method. Therefore it is very difficult to inspect the code for high weights, thus only small weights can be generated. The new algorithm provide mathematical formulas and step sequences to generate the code. This will lead to easily generate the code and in systematic manner. Especially for high code weights.

Investigations on the Effects of Limiting Factors in Optical DWDM Transmission Systems

The current generation of light wave systems benefit from increased transmission distance by using optical amplification and increased capacity by using dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technology. The reach of present systems is limited by the noise contributed by the used amplifiers, combined with nonlinear effects from transmission. The nature and extent of degradations in the optical DWDM systems due to these limiting factors have been discussed in this paper.

Spectral Amplitude Coding OCDMA: Performance Analysis on Detection Schemes using Vectors Combinatorial Code Families

In Spectral Amplitude Coding Optical Code Division Multiple Access (SAC-OCDMA) system, Multip-user Interference (MUI) problem which increases with the number of users severely limits the performance of the system. However, phase induce intensity noise (PIIN) arising from spontaneous emission of broad band source is another problem leads to system deterioration should be addressed.

Access Control System: An Architecture Approach for Monitoring, Survivability and Scalability in FTTH-PON Application

This paper highlights on online monitoring, protection switching and fast restoration approach for fiber to the home-passive optical network (FTTH-PON) using Access Control System (ACS). ACS is developed for downwardly monitoring and failure detection from central office (CO) towards customer premises. ACS also provides activation of switching in the restoration scheme at the drop region of FTTH-PON.

Influence of Optical Microwave Mixing on Conversion of FM-to-intensity Noise in Microwave Modulated Interferometric Systems

In this paper, an analysis of optical mixing of microwave signals on conversion of the noise power spectral density (NPSD), using a directly modulated semiconductor laser and an interferometer to convert frequency modulation into intensity modulation is introduced. The results show the influence of the modulation index and modulation frequency in an optical link by considering optical mixing.

Reflection and Transmission on the Surface of an Dielectric and Magnetic Anisotropic Media

In this paper, a method of solving rank-4 eigen-equations of a rigorous electromagnetic theory is presented as a straightforward way to analyze the optical reflection and transmission characteristics on the surface of the dielectric and magnetic anisotropicmedias with arbitrary orientation of principle optical axis, and it found that its solving process is simplifier than those previous methods.

Security Performance of Spectral Amplitude Code OCDMA: Spectrally Encoded Pulse Bandwidth Effects

This paper presents security performance of spectral amplitude code OCDMA based on Modified Double Weight (MDW) OCDMA scheme. The eavesdropper probability of correctly detected Spectral Encoding Chip Bandwidth (SECB) pulses in a code word is investigated. For MDW code with code length and code weight of 9 and 4 respectively, SNR of approximately 8 dB is sufficient for an eavesdropper to detect the SECB pulses with a probability of 50 %.
